Emily doesn’t know much about carpet cleaning. All she knows is that she needs to have her carpets cleaned yearly by a professional cleaning company. She only bought them a year ago and wants to make sure she takes care of her investment. So Emily goes ahead and asks a cleaning estimator to come out, take a look and give her a price on cleaning them. While the estimator is in her home, she doesn’t know quite what to say or ask. She wants to make sure this company will take care of her expensive flooring, but she feels inadequate to ask the right questions.
Up to this point, Emily has done a good job. She recognizes she has a need to clean her carpets in order to protect her investment. She also asked to have someone come take a look at her carpet to give her an estimate. This means she will meet the estimator in person and get a first impression of the whole company. However, Emily now feels a little insecure as she does not know anything about the cleaning process.
Emily goes ahead and asks what their process is for cleaning. This simple question puts the estimator on the spot to give an answer about the cleaning itself. If the estimator is not quite sure about every detail of the cleaning process, how are they going to give an accurate number for price? This should be a BIG RED FLAG.
Go ahead and ask what the cleaning process is. Ask them what they use and how they use it? Be the one in control and put the ball in the estimator’s court.
Bravo Emily!
Do you feel in control when an estimator comes into your home? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
